About

An Attorney-to-Attorney Conversation About Succession

IP Of Counsel exists because the usual choices for a mature IP practice — keep running the firm, or shut it down — leave out a real middle path.

This is not a recruiter, a private equity roll-up, or a job posting. It is an attorney-to-attorney conversation about succession.

What This Isn’t

To Be Direct About What We Are Not

Not a Legal Recruiter

We are not sourcing candidates for a job opening. We are talking with attorneys who already have a practice worth thinking carefully about.

Not a Private Equity Roll-Up

IP Of Counsel is a platform of an operating law firm, not a financial buyer assembling a portfolio of practices to consolidate and resell.

Not a Generic Job Posting

There is no listing, no application form disguised as a conversation, and no assumption that you are looking for employment in the ordinary sense.

Not a Practice Broker

We are not intermediaries looking to flip a book of business to a third party. Fargo Patent Law is the firm on the other side of the conversation.

And there is no requirement that you retire immediately, or at all, to have this conversation.

About the Firm Behind IP Of Counsel

Fargo Patent Law

IP Of Counsel is backed by Fargo Patent Law (FPL), an intellectual property law firm serving businesses and innovators. FPL provides the credibility, infrastructure, and continuity behind this platform — a real, operating law firm rather than a broker, a staffing agency, or a lead-generation service.

The firm’s work spans areas including patent prosecution, patent strategy, trademarks, IP agreements, IP portfolio strategy, and ongoing intellectual property counsel. The emphasis throughout is on an IP-focused, business-minded approach to client service — built to support long-term relationships rather than transactional engagements.

FPL is introduced here, and throughout this site, as the established firm standing behind the opportunity — deliberately, and not as the headline. The relationship you would be evaluating is with a platform built for IP practice succession specifically, backed by a firm with the infrastructure to support it.

Geography

A National Opportunity

IP Of Counsel is not a regional or local opportunity. We work with established IP attorneys throughout the United States.

Remote and flexible arrangements may be possible depending on the attorney, the clients, applicable licensing, practice area, and the structure ultimately developed — but that is something to work out in conversation, not a claim we make in the abstract.

Why This Exists

The Idea Behind the Platform

Most established IP attorneys eventually think about what happens to their practice as they slow down. The available answers — run the firm forever, or close it — rarely match what most attorneys actually want, which is more often a gradual transition than a hard stop.

IP Of Counsel was built to give that middle path a real, credible form: backed by an operating IP firm, structured individually, and approached the way one experienced attorney would want to be approached by another.
